Since 1933, vine growers in the Var department (France) mobilized themselves to deserve the name of ‘cotes de Provence'. It’s only in 1951, that they are labelled VDQS then A.O.C. in October 1977. The soil of the Coasts of Provence is copied on the geological borders of the Mediterranean edge and the Moors composed of schist, gneiss and granite. In the north of the Moors, a depression is made of sandstone, sands and clay (axis The-Luc - Cuers). In the North-West, limestone dominates over Carcès and Lorgues. The distribution by colour is as follows: 84 % “rosé”, 12 % red and 4 % white. 10 % intended for export. Associations of Producers have voluntarily limited in the assemblies the proportion of Cabernet-Sauvignon which is found everywhere and of Syrah, coming from the Rhone valley. They are complementary type of vines.
Chateau de PampelonneOne type of vines, however totally regional, will be used for less and less in the assemblies or will even be prohibited like Carignan, Roussanne. The homogeneity will be made on the basis of Cinsault, Grenache, Tibouren, Mourvèdre and Cabernet-Sauvignon.

In the making of the White wines, the Rolle and Sémillon replace gradually L’Ugni-White and the Clairette.

In Saint Tropez, the renowned Château Pampelonne with its vineyard of 50 hectares located along the famous beach of the same name in Ramatuelle. It is the largest property the Maitres Vignerons of Saint-Tropez. It belongs to theGasquet-Pascaud family for several generations. This prestigious magical area of 160 ha including 52 ha of vineyards on a regional granitic gneiss. Thanks to the exceptional situation of the Saint-Tropez peninsula and its considerable marine influence, the vines have the best sunshine in France (2800 to 3000 hours per year). The harvest, entirely turned into wine at the domain is harvested according to the results of the maturity controls and to the desired products. The grapes for rosé wines are harvested in the morning to enjoy a certain freshness. An oenologist follows each step of the wine-making process and the maturing of the wines that regularly win medals in competitions and are cited in guidebooks.
