A boating license is needed for boats with an engine higher than 6 cv. There are two different types of license: "coastal" which allows to go as far as 6 miles (11 km) from the coast; "offshore" allows to sail beyond this limit. You must be 16 or older. The theoretical training is validated through a multiple-choice questionnaire of 25 questions; practical training is done by a training center. The "offshore" level requires a theoretical exam on sailing, weather forecast, rules and regulations.
