Practical Information: a boating license is needed for boats with an engine higher than 6cv. There are two different types of license: "côtier" which allows to go as far as 6 miles (11 km) from the coast; "hauturier" allows to sail beyong this limit. To get it you must be 16 or older. The theoretical training is validated by a multiple-choice questionnaire of 25 questions; the practical training is done by a training center.
