Toulon - general map
 |
Toulon is the leading French port for serving Corsica. More than 1.3 million passengers boarded from the Var, which represents nearly 40% of Corsica Ferries' Mainland-Corsica traffic. Toulon is also the French city in the Mediterranean with one of the highest increases in terms of cruise ship arrivals, with 350,000 cruise passengers. The city also has a university (sciences, humanities, arts, law, Staps) and centers of higher education: preparatory classes for the grandes écoles at the Dumont-d'Urville high school, the Institut supérieur de l’électronique et du numérique (ISEN Toulon) and the Institute of Engineering Sciences of Toulon and the Var or Supméca. The city has an Opera, a regional National Conservatory, several museums, concert halls (Palais Neptune and Zénith-Omega) and a theater labeled "national scene": the Théâtre Liberté. Toulon-Hyères airport directly serves eleven destinations in Europe. The naval base at Toulon is France’s main military port. It is in particular at Toulon that the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle as well as the three buildings of protection and command are based. |
