Everyday,
in the early hours of the morning, the fishermen of The Lavandou,
the "pescadous" as they are called here, come back with their
nets full of fish. Come along and share this unique moment of
joyful, coloured, bewitching images.
At
the "prud'homie" fishermen's club you'll find a wide variety of
tiny rock fish that make for the finest bouillabaisse (regional
fish soup), and what a catch of in-shore fish : scorpion fish,
congers, John Dorys and sea perch...
The
fishermen use several kinds of nets and traps: the "emborgnie",
a compartment with a small mesh woven from the myrtle from the
hills, for catching morays, and the "garbelle", a compartment
with two entrances. Formerly they fished with the seine (the "bargin")
which consisted of throwing a net from 500 to 600 metres long
on the main beach in Le Lavandou or Cavalière with two
teams of 10 fishermen.
